How we chose our Representatives for Budapest

 

Nearly all the  students here entered a competition in school to decide who would  to go to Budapest. There were 16 entries from the Year 10 year group, many of them students working in pairs. The task was to design and then present to a live audience a presentation on any aspect of 'the effects on young people of the environment'. They could use which ever medium they wished. Each of the entries was individual and all of them put in an equally hard amount of work.The selection was made by all our tutors (8 of them) our Assistant Head of Year and other interested teachers. Originally the 'judging' was to be on one day, but the presentations were so detailed and we only had lunch times (50 minutes) to do them, it took two weeks!!

 The first two students below, Lenny and Julia were eventually selected, but it was a really difficult choice for the teachers!!

 

LIANNE SAVAGE

 

Hi Everyone!

I'm Lianne Savage (aka Lenny the Lioness)

I'm 15, 16 in September and I love anything to do with music. I play the guitar and sing, also learning how to play the mandolin too. I'm in a folk band which is strangely turning more into a rock band. I have been recording my music hoping to make it as a professional when I am older.

My favourite subjects at school are English, R.E and Music. I'm a big Tolkien fan and medieval life in general. My heroine and singer is Alanis Morisette.  I also love ska/rock/folk music, anything which has an influence with those three such as, [Spunge], Levellers, Dashboard Confessionals, Ocean Colour Scene, Less Than Jake and Catch 22!

Sports! Well I enjoy snowboarding,  basketball, rounders and Horse riding, american or english style.

  

To enter in the competition, to be chosen to go to Budapest, I made a song up, about how I feel about how children are being affected by the world today. I'll be bringing a new furnished CD of mine to be playing for when we each do our presentations.

 

I'll hopefully be taking my guitar along with me to Budapest so you'll see me there as the walking minstrel!

JULIA HORTH

 

Hi, my names Julia, i am 14 years old and one of the lucky two chosen to represent england in the conference in budapest. For my entry i made a presentation board and presented my work and reasearch to a board of judges, (our tutors!).

  

My main hobby is dance but i also love drama, i do lots of school plays and dance festvals. I do hip-hop/modern dance which i love because its:

• energetic,
• fast moving,
• intresting and has great music to dance to.

 When im older my dream is to become a background dancer for the stars! or if that fails i would like to become an actress in eastenders!lol!

 

My favorite subjects are: PE, RE textiles and drama!i like them because 1.you dont have to do loads of writing.

2.you can have fun and chat whilst doing th work.

3.because you get a chance to exspress yourself in them (well r.e and drama that is!)

 

 Also i forgot to mention i llloooooovvvvvvveeeeeee shopping!

i have a 16 year old brother called richard,  i live with him and my mum and dad, my mums a secretary and my dads a self employed architect!

 

i also like disscusions!(in general) they give me a chance to speak my mind and to think quite deeply about issues!

Lisbet Heine Frosdick

Hi I'm a year 10 student at Nailsea school and I volanteered to be part of the internet classroom.  My favourite subjects include RE as I find it intersting and Science as I am good at it.

I'm half Danish but living in England (I go over there a lot) and I think connecting children from all around europe is a brilliant idea. Mixing cultures has helped me be very open to other people's views and I hope this projects helps others be more accepting of other people.

I'm dyslexic that means that I have problems with spelling and handwriting so if you don’t understand anything I write its probable my fault. I also have dysphasia its common for people with dyslexia to have this too it means my coordination not great and I’m not good at a lot of sports. But I do kickboxing and dance with Julia outside of school, which I really enjoy I have jut done a dance show at Chew Valley and am a purple belt in kickboxing.

All of my year are doing exams at the moment so we are very stressed, so it's good that we are doing mental health. I hope to talk with you all soon.

KATIE FENTON

 

Hi!  

My name Katie  and I'm 15 years old.  I go to Nailsea School and my favourite subject is Spanish.  I also learn French.  My hobbies are horse riding and football.  At school, we have a girls football team and I play in defence with my friend, Jenny.  I have 2 brothers called Tom and Mick.  Tom is 13 years old and Mick is 10.

 

I am very pleased to be taking part in this, as I think it is very interesting, communicating with people of around my age from across the continent.

Hiya! 

I'm Emily  and I'm 14 years old. I go to Nailsea School with the rest of these guys! I don’t want to sound like a nerd, but I enjoy school however at the moment, coursework’s flying around everywhere! It’s no fun! I enjoy most subjects especially those that give me a chance to express myself. 

I have a big family consisting of, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and my mum and dad! Rather large don’t you think?

 

Anyway, I think it will be a great chance for all of the people taking part in our school’s virtual class to be able to talk/communicate with the people from your virtual classes. And, I’m really looking forward to it.

Katie Pendlington !!!

 

Hi, I’m Katie. I am 15 years old and am in year 10 at Nailsea School. I don't live in Nailsea but round where I live there are limited high-achieving schools. I live with my mum but see my dad all the time. My brother lives with us, he is 20 in April. His girlfriend has moved in as well, so my house is never quiet.
     My hobbies are dancing, Ice-skating, Running, and drawing. I did drama and dance lessons for just over 8 years, but I was forced to stop when I got a condition in my knee from being too active. After a while I decided to start going Ice-skating. I managed to keep that up for about a year and a half. I passed grade 7 and again was forced to quit due to problems with my knee. Recently I’ve taken up running. Its part of my keep fit plan. I've always loved drawing and I’m not too bad at it (not being too big-headed).
     I love rock music and I was a goth for about a year. My favourite bands are Nirvana and Chilli Peppers. I also like Less Than jack and Eels. I did like Korn and harder rack like that but I’ve grown out of that. My favourite film has to be spider-man or Queen of the dammed not quite sure. 

In school I am a Peer-Drug Educator, this means I teach kids my age or younger about the effects of drugs and how you shouldn't take them.

JOANNA MERCHANT

 

Heya! 

 I'm usually known as Jo but some people call me Joey (ie most of my family) but that sounds a little too cute for me! I'm 15, 16 in October, and I live in the west end of Nailsea with my mum, step-dad, and three sisters, two of which are 8 year old twins! Cute!!! My other sister is 13 and goes to the same school as me. We share a room at the moment (unfortunately) but my room is in the process of being built (I'm writing this whilst listening to the builders banging on the walls!). 

Moving on swiflty, my hobbies are sports, my favourites are hockey and rounders, and playing the piano. I spend most of my time meeting up with my mates. I love just hanging out with a bunch of mates and having a good laugh! 

I'm really glad that I'm involved with this project and I look foward to chatting to you all soon!

Hiya!

I go to Nailsea School (the best school in Bristol!) I'm 15 years old, 16 in September (Can't wait!). I enjoy sport, sport and more sport!! I especially like playing golf. I do GCSE PE at school, which I really enjoy. I also love music, R&B is great although I'll listen to almost anythink!

 

I have two brothers who are both older than me, they can be annoying (like all brothers!), although most of the time they are great.

Hi, I'm Jenny Hearn and I'm 14. I love football and my favourite team is Leeds United (Even though we got relegated). My favourite school subjects are French, Spanish and Art. I play the flute, although I prefer rock music to classical. I am glad to be part of the Young Minds group and I'm having fun so far.
