MULROY COLLEGE
Our school opened in September 1999.
In my opinion it is a beautiful building, extremely pleasing to the eye and internally well designed to cater for the educational needs of all the students and also our school is all on one level which helps students with disabilities.
Our school offers a broad balanced curriculum with over 30 subjects to choose from.
Mulroy College is very well run and organised, staff are friendly and the students are friendly, approachable and mannerly most of the time which creates a good atmosphere.
There are around 30 teachers and 450 students, which is a good thing as the school is small enough so that everyone knows everyone else.
Some of the classrooms we have in our school are the computer room, two science laboratories, two woodwork rooms, two metalwork rooms, and an art room which are all up to very high standards.
Our school gives girls and boys equal opportunities eg. girls are able to do metalwork and boys are able to do home-economics.
The school offers many great extra curricular activities which include:Educational Tours and An Gaisce Presidents award which is an award you get when you complete three different activities which you preform in your community.
Our school also takes part in outdoor pursuits and is very into Gaelic football, soccer and athletics.
Mulroy College is a really nice place and worth while going to!!!
THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Mulroy College has a stable physical environment. The physical environment includes the school and its general surroundings.
The school building itself is only 5 years old and thus is in a good state of repair.Facilities within the school include a gym with some working exercise machines. This area is not used a lot. The sports hall is used for physical education classes and is also used by community organisation after school.
There are 2 computer computer suites and most classrooms have one computer each. The canteen is the central area of the school with a large dome shape ceiling. An adjoining music room serves as a stage area but this area is needed during break times.
The young-minds group in Ireland feel the best way to improve the physical school environment is to set up an active student council. This student council will then complement work being carried out by staff planning sub-committees.
The investigation will involve at least 2 guest speakers. One speaker has already attended a meeting. This was our school's Donegal youth council representative. Our investigation will centre around how a youth council works. A specific action will result from the establishment of this council. 2 specific actions already decided by young-minds and school management is the provision of 2 large noticeboards for the purpose of promoting school events.
The use of ICT and the increased participation of the young-minds group in school planning has been the main must of young-minds in Mulroy College to date.
We feel we must improve on the cross cultural collaberation. This is the main challenge. The students are beginning to use the internet more but most with home internet use are still having ploblems with access.
