Text

Note!

As a general rule you should always keep a copy of all the text you insert on the website. If the unfortunate thing happens, and pages or entries are deleted, you always have an extra copy of it.

In this section we will deal with the following issues regarding the texteditor

The text editor

The text editor has got most of the functionality any other text editor has.

The difference is that this on is web-based. This means that you can use it without having any other text editor installed on your computer.

The only demand is that you are using Internet Explorer (version 5.5 or 6). In other words, you cannot use Netscape, Opera, Morzilla etc.

The system has been set so that the defaults for bread-text are:

  • Font: Verdana
  • Font size: 10 point
  • Font colour: Black
  • Font weight: Normal

It is highly recommended that you stick to this standard when working on the official part of the site.

The reason for this wish is, that if you stick to Arial, Courier, System, Times New Roman and Verdana you can be absolutely certain that the web pages will look as when you made them.

Using other fonts may / will result in different layouts. If the receiver does not have the font you used, it is substituted with a ‘look a like’ font.

Writing the text

You can insert text into a page in different ways:

  • Write directly in the editor

This has got the advantage that you don’t use facilities that are not supported by the system.

The disadvantage is that you cannot do any spell checking of the text.

  • Write the text in Word and copy / paste into the editor.

The advantages are that you can spell check the text before pasting it into the editor, you can format the text etc.

The disadvantage is that you bring a lot of code with you from Word and the layout is therefor locked. You can neither change size or colour.

  • Write the text in e.g. Word and copy / paste into Notepad and copy / paste from Notepad into the editor.

The advantage is that you can spell check the text before pasting it into Notepad.

By copying it into Notepad the text is stripped for the Word coding.

The disadvantage is that it is a process which is a bit complicated to run through, but it is safer than any other, unless you are a very good speller in English.

Formatting the text

As you can see on the list of icons, you can do almost anything with the text. It can have various sizes, colours, be aligned to the left, to the right, to the centre and justified. It can be bold, Italic, Underlined and stricken through or any combination of this. You can make Superscript and and subscript.

You can Undo and Redo anything you do in the editor by clicking the appropriate icon.

Stylesheets

We have added a stylesheet facility. Stylesheets are efficient to use because it helps you to, in an easy way, make coherent layouts.

The text in the right column in the table below, has been formatted by the help of stylesheets:

Tables

You can also insert tables in the text editor. The table above, showing the stylesheets is an example of such a table. Read more about it under the menupoint 'Tables'.

Saving

There are two different ways of saving a page you are working on. You can 'Save and finish' and you can 'Save'. Save and finish will save your work and close the window, Save will just save your work, but you may continue working afterwards.

A good advice is to remember to click Save once in a while, just to make sure that you do not loose your work.
